Q

Conductors vs. insulators

A
  1. Conductors: allow charges to flow freely within them ( metals are excellent conductors)
  2. Insulator: do not allow charge to pass within them thus does not transmit electricity well. Non- metals are great insulators. In our body in the nervous system myelin makes great conductors.

Q

What is the electric field?

A
  1. it is the field that allows charges to move, it is a similar concept then the force of gravity on life. except the electric field is stronger.
  2. Just like any object has a force on gravity acting upon it, every electric charge has a force of electric field that surrounds it.
  3. How to draw the lines:
    1. basics: comes out of + charges get into - charges

Q

Explain the concept of electrostatic energy?

A
  1. Energy is synanomous to work, and work is the the force needed to create a displacement
  2. In the electrostatic field we look more so as potential energy the ability of charges to interact due to their position
    1. if they are farther apart ( larger radius) they will yield higher potential energy than if they were closer together, and means that they are less likely to come into contact.
