Electronics Week 1 Flashcards
Protons and Electrons
Protons = Postive Charge; Electrons = Negative Charge
Conductors
Will give up or accept extra electroncs more easily than other materials (metals, copper, gold, silver)
Insulators
is resistant to releasing or accepting electrons (rubber, cloth, air)
Resistors
restrict current flow (carbon, some metals). Resistance can be varied by adding impurities
Electrical Flow
an electron is freed from an atom and it collides with a second atom which accepts it and throws off one of its own. Like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other
Electromotive Force (Voltage)
The difference in electrical charge between two points in a circuit (the push that causes electrical flow)
Power
How much work is being done; P = E x I (Watts = Voltage x Amps)
OHMS Law
E (Voltage) = I (Current) x R (Resistance)
Series Resistors
Add them together (R1 + R2+ R3…)
Parallel Resistors
Reciprocal addition 1/ R total ( 1/r1 + 1/r2 + 1/r3… )
