Electronic Warfare Flashcards
What does military electronic warfare aim to achieve?
Exploiting EM energy in order to privide situational awareness, as well as achieve offensive and defensive effects.
What is the EME?
The Electro-Magnetic Environment is the operational environment in which EM effects are realised.
What are the desired effects of Electronic Attack (EA)?
Deception, Disruption, Destruction, Degradation, Denial, Neutralisation.
What is the desired effect of Electronic Defence (ED)?
Protection
What is the desired effect of Electronic Surveilance (ES)?
Shared situational awareness
What is EA?
Electronic attack is the use of EM energy for offensive purposes.
What is ED?
Electronic Defence is the use of EM energy to provide protection and ensure friendly use of the EM spectrum.
What is ES?
Electronic Surveillance is the use of EM energy for Situational Awareness and Intelligence.
What is ECM?
Electronic Countermeasures are actions taken to prevent and reduce an enemy’s effective us of the EM spectrum through use of EM energy; and can be divided into 3 categories:
1. Jamming
2. Deception
3. Neutralisiation
What is ESM?
Electronic Support Measures are actions taken to to search for, identify and intercept EM emissions and to locate their sources in order to recognise threats and aid decision making by producing Signals Intelligence (SIGINT).
What is EPM?
Electronic Protective Measures are actions taken to ensure effective friendly use of the EM spectrum despite the enemy’s use of EM energy.
What are the three main types of homing guidance?
Command-guided, EO, Laser
Where within the EM Spectrum do MANPADs operate (x)?
