Refers to any data, information, words, photos or symbols that are sent electronically to communicate with one or more people
What is Email short for and what does it do
Stands for electronic mail
Allows you to send and receive messages containing text, images, or other attachments to and from anyone with an email address

Combination of blogging and instant messaging that allows users to create short messages to be posted and shared with an audience online. Example is Twitter
What does SMS stand for and what is it
Short Message Service
A means to send short messages from one mobile phone to another
What are the situations in which SMS is most commonly used (4)
The sender does not know the message receiver
The sender does not have internet access needed for instant messaging applications
The sender does not have a phone capable of using instant messaging applications
Some banks also use SMSs to notify customers of transactions on their bank account
What is Instant Messaging
A service like SMS that allows people to send short messages using their mobile phones
What is Video Casting
A form of communication where videos are broadcast over the internet.
Includes videos being created and uploaded to a website or live streams
What is podcasting
An audio-only broadcast released on the internet
What does VOIP stand for and what is it
Voice Over Internet Protocol
A service to make telephone calls over the internet rather than through the traditional telephone or cell phone networks. Voice and multimedia data to be transferred across a data network.
What is Video Conferencing
A set of technologies that allow a person to make a video call to one or more people at the same time
What were the differences between feature phones and smartphones
Feature phones had a very weak processor, low quality screen and poor camera
Applications had to be designed specifically for each feature phone and there was no App Store

Post Office Protocol version 3
One of the protocols that are used to retrieve emails from your mail server
What does SMTP stand for and what is it
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
A protocol that is used to send emails
Tells your email application what information is needed to successfully send an email
Once an email is sent, it makes sure that the email is sent to the correct mail server on the internet
What does IMAP do
Allows you to access your email messages wherever you are if you have data or a wireless connection to the internet
What is VOIP used for
Used to make voice calls over the internet
What do HTTP and HTTPS do
Determines how web pages are viewed
What does FTP do
Allows files to be transferred over the internet
What does encryption do
Ensures any data sent between two computers is changed from something that is useful to encrypted data that is difficult to decrypt and use by unauthorised people
