Q

How do electrons move up shells?

A

The electrons get energy from electromagnetic radiation surrounding it when it takes enough energy in it will move up shell causing a reactions, this movement causes the electron to release all of its energy (this is absorbed by the EM radiation). This loss of energy causes the electron to fall back to its initial shell .

Q

How does an atom become ionised?

A

When an outer electron absorbs enough radiation so much it leaves the atom , it is now a free electron.

This leaves the atom to be ionised and be positive
The more electrons it loses the more positive it will be.
