Electromagnetism Flashcards
Magnetism
Movement of electric charges.
Permanent magnets
Have two poles located at opposite ends of the magnet - North and South pole.
Magnetic flux density
The force acting on 1m of a conductor carrying a current of 1A perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field.
Unit of magnetic flux density
T - tesla (a vector quantity)
Lenz’s law
The inducted emf makes a current to flow in such a direction as to oppose the change that caused it.
Faraday’s law
If the magnetic flux lines passing through a circuit change then an emf is induced. The induced emf is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux passing through the circuit.
Electromagnetic induction
When a change in magnetic flux induces an emf.
