Electromagnetism Flashcards
Which ways do magnetic field lines go?
North to south
Where is the magnetic field strongest on a magnet?
The poles
Where is a magnetic field created on a wire?
Concentric circles around the wire
literally look at the first page in the booklet
What happens when a conductor is placed within a magnetic field and made to carry current?
It experiences a magnetic force
LOOK AT THE NEXT PAGE IN THE BOOKLET AFTER THE FIRST PAGE
What is the left hand rule?
Thumb = Thrust force
First Finger = Field (points from north to south)
Second finger = Current (points the direction current is flowing through wire)
What happens when a wire is moved through a magnetic field?
An alternating current and voltage is induced
What happens when a wire cuts a magnetic field line?
A voltage is induced
How do you induce a larger voltage in a generator?
More coils, move faster, stronger magnetic field
How does a transformer work?
An alternating voltage is put into the primary coils. This makes the coils and the iron core an alternating magnet. The secondary coils are linked to the core and cuts magnetic field lines as the field alternates. This induces an alternating voltage in the secondary coil.
- Alternating voltage put into the primary coils
- Makes coils and iron core an alternating magnet
- Secondary coils linked to core
- Also cuts magnetic field lines as field alternates
- Induces an alternating voltage in secondary coil

VERY IMPORTANT
Alright alright fine
I think you should bring the book with you bro o7
o7 agreed
What is the right hand rule?
Thumb = motion
First finger = Field
Second finger = current
This for generators
