Q

How did Herschel discover Infra Red?

A

When using coloured filters on his telescope πŸ” he noticed a change in temperature depending on the colour. He used a prism to break up the visible light and used a thermometer to test the temperature of each colour. He found the temperature rose from violet to red. Temperature highest at red end of Visible light spectrum…. Infra red discovered.

Q

How did Ritter discover Ultra Violet?

A

Inspired by Herschel, Ritter tried to find invisible rats at the Violet end of the spectrum. Part of the experiment involved the use of Silver Chloride which turns black when exposed to light. The colour change happened fasted when exposed to invisible Ray’s at the Violet end
