Electromagnetic Attack and RF Frequency Interference Flashcards
What is Electromagnetic Interference?
A disturbance that affects an electrical circuit due to electromagnetic induction or electromagnetic radiation emitted from an external source
What is Electromagnetic Attack?
EA involves the use of the EM spectrum to attack enemy target systems
What is Constructive Interference?
Can be used in EA to enhance the strength of a signal, as well as increase the strength of friendly signals
What is Destructive Interference?
Can be used in EA to reduce the fidelity of enemy signals
What is Offensive EA?
Use of EA to support offensive military operations
What is Defensive EA?
Use of EA to protect friendly forces from adversary attacks
What is Jamming in EA?
A method of EA that aims to disrupt or deny the usage of a communication link or detection system
What are the two categories of Jamming?
- Active
Emitting signals to interfere with a target’s operation - Passive
Involves techniques such as chaff or decoys to confuse the enemy’s systems
What is Spoofing?
False information is introduced into the enemy’s systems, causing them to react to an incorrect situation
What are the four factors influencing the effectiveness of an Electronic Attack?
- Power
- Frequency
- Modulation
- Target
What is Jammer to Signal Ratio (JSR)?
A measure that compares the power of a jamming signal to the power of the signal it is attempting to jam
What is Critical Jammer to Signal Ratio (CJSR)?
Minimum required JSR needed to effectively jam a signal
