Electrolysis Flashcards
Electrolysis?
Separation of an IONIC compound by passing DIRECT CURRENT through it
Electrolyte?
It is an ionic compound that can be decomposed by passing dc current through it
Anode, Positive or negative?
Positive electrode
Cathode, positive or negative?
Negative electrode
Negative ion’s name?
Anions
Positive cathode’s name?
Cations
Current moves?
Positive to negative
Electrons move?
Negative to positive
What happens at anode? Oxidation or reduction?
Oxidation
What happens at cathode? Oxidation or reduction?
Reduction
What happens at anode?
Negative ions give up electrons and become electrically neutral
What happens at cathode?
Positive ions take up electrons to become electrically neutral
Electropostivity series?
Please Send Monkeys And Zebras In Tin Large Heavy Crates by Monday Simon George
Electronegativity series?
Fucks Sake No Can’t Be Into HO
How to select what will discharge in respect to H+ and OH-?
If the solution is dilute and the element is away from H or OH then it won’t be discharged. If it is concentrated and near to OH or H, it will be discharged
