Electrolysis Flashcards
define electrolytes
the chemical substance that conducts electricity by the passage of electric current
define electrolysis
The process of splitting the electrolytes into their respective ions is electrolysis.
describe the qualitative aspect of electrolysis
In the process of electrolysis, the cations move towards the cathode and anions move towards the anode
define faraday’s law of electrolysis
faraday explains about the relation between the amount of substance liberated or deposited on electrode and quantity of electricity passed which is known as faraday’s law of electrolysis
state faraday’s 1st law of electrolysis
It states that the amount of substance liberated from or deposited on electrode is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity passed.
state faraday’s 2nd law of electrolysis
It states that when same quantity of electricity is passed through different electrodes collected in the series, the amount of substance liberated or deposited is directly proportional to the electrochemical equivalent.
define electrochemical equivalent
the amount of substance liberated from or deposited on electrode when 1 ampere current is passed for 1 second
