Electricity SP10 Flashcards
physics
What is the formula for current?
I=q/t current(amps)=charge(coulombs)/time(seconds)
or
I=p/v
current(amps)=power(watts)/voltage(volts)
or
V=I x R voltage =current/resistance
What is the formula for charge?
charge=energy(joules)/voltage(volts) q=e/v
q=Ixt
charge(coulombs=current(amps) x time(seconds)
what are the formulas for power?
power(watts)=energy(joules)/time(seconds) p=e/t also P=IxV power(watts)=Current(amps)potential difference(volts)
what is the formula for resistance?
R=V/I resistance(ohms)=voltage(v)/current(amps)
What do all of the different formula symbols mean?
I=Current in amps V=Voltage/potential difference R=Resistance Q=Charge T=Time E=Energy P=Power
What is a fuse?
A small metal wire that melts when voltage higher than its limit is passed through.
What is a circuit breaker?
An electronic switch used to cut off the power when a voltage higher than its limit passes through
What is the difference between a fuse and circuit breaker?
A fuse is one time use but is faster acting a circuit breaker is slower but only needs to be reset after a surge.
Talk about a mains supply
It outputs 230 volts, is made in a power station, is transported through pipes and wires, has a frequency of 50 HZ and uses alternating current.
What is an ion?
A atom that has lost or gained an electron causing it to be positively or negatively charged.
What are the different kind of resistors?
Light emitting diode, diode, variable resistor, Light Dependent Resistor, resistor, thermistor I think there was more but never mind.
What is the formulas for wave speed
Wave speed = frequency x wavelength v = f x (triangle with long side)
Wave speed = distance/time v = x/t
What is the formula for GPE
GPE= m x g x h
What is the formula for KE
KE= 1/2 x m x v squared
