Q

What are the two types of electricity supplies - and what are they ?

A

Ac - alternating current is constantly changing direction. The currents are produced by alternating voltages ( in which the pos and neg ends keep alternating)

Dc- direct current is supplied by cells and batteries it is always flowing in the same direction and is created by direct voltage

Q

When do the three wires do in a plug?

A

Neutral wire- blue- completes the circuit and carries away the current electricity normally goes in the line wire and out the neutral wire

Live wire- brown- provides the alternating potential difference. Electricity flows in through the live wire

Earth wire- green and yellow- it protects the wiring. It stops the casing from becoming live and it doesn’t usually have current unless there is a fault

Q

Why doe a live wire give you an electric shock

A

Because your body is at 0 volts so if you touch a live wire (that has a large current) a large potential difference is produced and current can flow through it.
