Q

What is charge by friction

A

When rubbing two objects together it provides the energy needed to move electrons from one object to another causing a charge to build up

Q

How do you use static electricity to paint cars

A

You make the car positively charged so you can use a negatively charges spray gun too spray the paint across the car and the paint spreads out evenly because the negative charge is attracted to the positive charged car

16
Q

How do you use static dusters

A

When you sweep the duster across an object it causing a buildup of charge on the duster, the dust is attracted to the static duster and “jumps” of of the surface onto the duster

17
Q

What are some ways to avoid charge

A
  • grounding
  • points
  • humidity
18
Q

What are the 3 equations for calculating current, voltage, and resistance

A

V=IR
I=V/R
R=V/I

19
Q

what are the 4 factors that contributes to the resistance of a substance

A

1.Lengeth= the longer the wire the greater the resistance, the shorter the wire the smaller the resistance
2.Cross Sectional area= the larger the area of the wire the SMALLER the resistance, if area is doubled the resistance is half
3.Temperature= as the temp increases the resistance increases
4.Material= some materials allow electrons to move more freely than others which makes the resistance smaller

20
Q

What happens to the resistance when you cools a substance down

A

The resistance gets smaller too

21
Q

What happens the the resistance when you heat a substance up

A

The resistance also increases

22
Q

When the resistance in a circut decreases the current…

A

Increases

23
Q

In a parallel circuit the voltage of the source is 1.5 V what is the voltage across each lightbulb

A

1.5V it stays the same

24
Q

In a parallel circuit each lightbulb has a current of 2 A what is the current of the battery

A

6A

25
Q

In a parallel circut how does the current across the source compare to the current across each lightbulb

A

The current of the source is the sum of all of the currents in each lightbulb

26
Q

What will happen when a negatively charged rod makes contact with a positively charges sphere

A

The electrons will move from the rod to the sphere
