Electricity and circuits Flashcards
Electricity
an energy caused by the movement of electrons between two points when there is a potential difference between them, causing electric current
Electric charges
when two objects are rubbed together, the accumulation of charged particles on the surfaces creates a crackling effect=static energy
SI unit=Coloumb
Net charge
Positive-Negative charges=Net charge
the transfer of electrons on an object creates this
Formula for electric current
I= charge(Q)/time(t)
Electric current
is the flow of electric charges through any material
SI unit=Ampere(A)
Resistance
How easily electric current can flow, silver is less resistant than aluminum as aluminum has greater hindrance to the electric current
adjectives wise resistance
Long wire= More
Short wire=Less
Think=Low
Thin=More
Higher resistance of a wire
Higher heat produced
In electric objects not requiring heat
The wires are usually made up of thin filament(ex.tungsten)
Fuses
It heats up and breaks to protect an electric current from short circuits and stuff
MCB
Miniature circuit breakers->
they are switches that turn off when the current exceeds limits
