Electricity Flashcards
Circuit diagram
A way of drawing electrical circuits using standard symbols
Circuit symbol
The representation of objects used in a circuit
Conductor
Materials that allow electrons to move through it
Current electricity
The controlled flow of electrons through a conductor
Electron
A negatively charged particle through an atoms nucleus
Insulator
Materials that do not allow electrons to move easily through it
Kilowatt hour
The unit for measuring electrical energy usage, the use of one kilowatt of energy per hour
Lightning
The build up of electrons on the base of a cloud and protons on the earths surface
Load
The part of the circuit that coverts electrical energy into some other form of energy
Ohms law
The straight line relationship between voltage and current
Parallel circuit
A circuit in which the loads are connected by branches so that there are two or more paths for electrons to flow
Resistor
A device that reduces the flow of electrons in a current
Series circuit
A circuit in which the loads are connected end to end so that there is only one path for electrons to flow
Static electricity
The imbalance of electrical charges on the surface of a object
Voltage
The difference in electrical potential energy per unit charge, measured at two separate points
