Electricity Flashcards
What do you measure the voltage in a circuit with?
A volt meter
What is current
The rate of flow of change through a circuit
What is voltage
Voltage is the potential difference across the circuit
What is electricity
Electricity is the flow of charge
What is a conductor
A conductor allows electricity to flow through it this is because it has lots of free electrons
What is a non conductor
A non conductor has a very high resistance it does not have as many free electrons making it hard for electricity to flow
What happens to light bulbs in a series circuit
They have to share the current
What happens to light bulbs in a parallel circuit
In a parallel circuit both light bulbs have full charge
What is the symbol for a resister
A square with lines coming out of it
What is the symbol for the ammeter
A circle with a A in it and two lines coming out
Voltage in a parallel circuit
In a parallel circuit the voltage is equal for each branch
Voltage in a parallel circuit
In a parallel circuit the voltage is equal across each branch
What is the symbol for a motor?
A circle with an m in it
What does current do in a parallel circuit
Split
What does current do in a series circuit
Same
What does voltage do in a parallel circuit
Same if no mini circuit
What does voltage do in a series circuit
Split
What is resistance
Resistance is the measure of how much a material slows current
What is resistance measured in
Ohms an up side down horse shoe
What is voltage measured in
Volts V
What is electricity measured in
Watts W
What is current measured in
Amps A
How can resistance be measured
Using a current/ voltage calculation or an ohmmeter
Is the current next to the cell the highest or the lowest
Highest as all the electrons must flow through that wire to get to the others
What is the symbol for a battery
Big line small line big line small line
What is the symbol for a buzzer
An upside down mushroom
What are the children
Electrons
What are the bananas
Energy
What are the monkeys
Light bulbs
What is the banana stand
Cell
