Q

Why is using a mobile while refuelling dangerous?

A

Air rushing past a car/plane can DRAG ELECTRONS off the vehicle’s body, leaving it charged POSITIVELY charged. This also causes the ground to become NEGATIVELY charged. Therefore, electrons may “LEAP” from the ground to the vehicle, causing a SPARK which can cause FUEL MOLECULES in the air to ignite. Sparks from mobile phones can cause the same effect.

Q

How does spray painting a car work?

A

The car is given a NEGATIVE charge, the paint a POSITIVE charge and therefore the paint sticks to the car because OPPOSITE charges ATTRACT. The paint spreads out evenly because of the fact that like charges REPEL.
