electricity Flashcards
what happens with a parallel circuit?
current is split but the voltage is maintained
give the method to find the resistance of a wire
- connect circuit as shown in diagram (which i can’t show..)
- connect the crocodile clips to the resistance wire, 100cm apart
- record readings on the ammeter and voltmeter
- move one of the crocodile clips closer by 10 cm
- record new readings
- repeat whilst moving crocodile clips 10cm everytime until 10cm
- use results to calculate resistance - R = V / I
- plot a graph
what is mains electricity?
it is 230v, it is an alternating current which means it changes direction and the current changes size, it changes direction 50 times per second
what colour is the earth wire?
yellow with green stripes
where is the earth wire?
in the middle between the two other wires
where is the earth terminal screw?
connected to the top of the earth wire
where is the back plate screw hole?
circle under the earth terminal screw
where is the fuse?
on the right, the grey rectangle
what colour is the live wire?
brown
where is the liver wire?
on the right of the earth wire
where is the cable grip?
long oval at the bottom of the plug
where is the cable?
string from under the plug
what colour is the neutral wire?
blue
where is the neutral wire?
next to the earth wire on the left
where is the plastic housing?
the area outside all the circuits
what does the bulb graph look like?
it looks like a cubic graph
what does a resistor graph look like?
straight line, directly proportional
what does a diode graph look like?
straight line on the middle axis then it goes up in a straight line
