Electricity Flashcards
what is voltage (p.d)?
energy transferred to each coulomb of charge
what is current?
charge transferred per second
what are some factors that increase resistance?
-temperature
-length of wire
-thickness of wire
how do you calculate voltage?
V = IR (v = current x res.)
How do you calculate charge?
Q = It (Q = current x time)
what is alternating current (a.c)?
current that changes direction and magnitude continuously and comes from a mains power source
what is direct current ( d.c )?
current that goes in the same direction and has the same magnitude and comes from a battery source
what does resistance do?
oppose the flow of the current
what are the rules of the series circuit?
voltage splits, current stays the same
how do you calculate resistance in a series circuit?
Rt = R1 + R2 …
what are the rules of the parallel circuit?
current splits, voltage stays the same
how do you calculate resistance in a parallel circuit?
1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 …
what are transistors?
electronic switches
what must the input voltage of an NPN transistor be at in order for it to switch on?
0.7v or higher
what must the input voltage of a MOSFET transistor be at in order for it to switch on?
2v or higher
