Electricity Flashcards
Ammeter
Used to measure the size of electric current flowing through an electric circuit.
Unit of measure : amperes (A)
Electric Current (I)
Voltmeter
Voltage or potential difference is the charge in energy in an electrical system. Voltmeters are used to measure the voltage change across parts of a circuit.
Unit of measure : voltage (V).
Normally set up in parallel with the circuit.
Resistor
Any device that has electrical resistance e.g. a light bulb
The resistance is measured in Ohms (omega)
Cell
Chemical device that makes electricity
Battery
A series of cells joined together
Current
A measure of how fast the electrons are travelling around the circuit.
Rheostat
A variable resistor : the longer the path the current has to travel through, the higher the resistance.
Ohm’s law
Voltage = Current * Resistance
Volts = Amps * Ohms
V = I * R
Ohm’s law
Voltage = Current * Resistance
Volts = Amps * Ohms
V = I * R
