Electricity Flashcards
What are the two types of charge?
positive and negative
What happens when you rub a perspex rod and a cloth?
When you rub the two materials, electrons are transferred from the rod to the cloth. The rod now has a positive charge and the cloth has a negative charge as there are not enough atoms to neutralize the charges.
What is charge?
This can either be positive/negative it is a property of electrons and protons.
What is current?
The flow of electric charge in a circuit. (electrons) It is measured in ampere(A) and the device to measure current is called an ammeter.
What is an ion?
An atom that has gained or lost electrons.
What is earthing?
This is when a metal is connected to an object and the metal is also connected to the ground so when lightning hits the metal it directs the current to the ground which is an insulator.
What is lightning?
This is when electrons are moving in the air and when there are enough electrons it creates a spark and we see it as lighting.
