Electrical Systems Midterm Flashcards
What Is Ohm’s Law? (How is It structured?)
Ohm’s law works by Dividing and Multiplying the following: V/I = R
V/R = I IxR = V
What are the different types of symbols and what do they stand for?
E = Voltage (Volts)
U = Potential to move electricity
I = Current (Amps)
Ω = Unit of resistance (Ohms)
What Is watts Law? (How is it structured?)
Watt’s law works very similar to Ohm’s law by Dividing and Multiplying the following: P/V = I P/I=V VxI= P
What is the Different Units Of measurements and how would you convert from one to another?
The different units used are Mega, Kilo, Milli, and Micro. you convert from one another by following the chart and adding zeros or moving the decimal point from your original number you have. The Larger you’re converting something; the less zeros will be added while as the Smaller you’re converting something; the more zeros will be added.
What is a series Circuit?
- Has one path for current Flow. If the path is open, the entire circuit will not work.
- Equal Current throughout the circuit
- All the voltage drops equal the source Voltage.
- The resistance in this circuit is the source of all the resistors in the circuit.
What are the steps to troubleshooting for a customer?
- Verify the customers Complaint.
- Test the cause with flow charts or visual inspections.
- Verify the cause
- Make the repair
- Verify the repair
- Get paid
What is a Parallel Circuit?
- Has multiple paths that current can flow. If one of the paths are open the others will continue to produce current.
- Different number of current flowing through different circuits and can be determined by following Ohms law and Dividing V/R.
What Is a Relay?
1.Used Throughout Cars
2. Can use 1 Amp to produce to 40 Amps
Ex: An Ignition switch works from a relay to turn on the car.
What are the Different steps to fault finding in a relay circuit?
V1: Voltage across battery
V2: Voltage across the load
V3: Negative load to Negative battery
V4: Positive load to Positive
What are the specifications of a battery in a typical car?
- Batteries Last typically 2-5 years
- 12.6V (minimum check for battery)
- The larger the surface, the greater the (cold) starting current
- Minimum of 658 cold current needed to start engine
- The thicker the plate the greater the capacity
Who created the first motor that is ran by the battery?
Charles Ketering
What is the typical label on the battery that tells you information about the Current per hour, resistance and Volts? What are these numbers?
12V (Volts)
640 Ω (Ohm)
70Ah (Amps per hour)
True or False, Cold weather will make a battery last much longer than warm weather.
False (Cold Weather makes a battery last not as long).
What chemicals does Batteries consist of?
Electrolyte
Sulfuric Acid
Hydrogen Gas (H)
True or false: The gravity of the electrolyte also decreases when the battery is not being used
True
