Electrical System

What does a GCU do?

A

It connects each gen to the ac electrical bus, regulates gen output, and protects system components against overvoltage, undervoltage, feeder fault, and underfrequency

At what Nr will the GCUs disconnect the generators while on the ground and in the air?

A

On the ground, 94% Nr

In the air, 80% Nr

The GCUs will reconnect Gens to the AC buses at 97% Nr

Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

When do the GEN cautions appear? (3 times)

A
  1. Respective gen is not supplying power to the Buses
  2. Respective Gen is selected off
  3. A failure of the Gen, GCU, Contactor control relay, or wiring fault has occured

What is the purpose of the batt analyzer/conditioner?

A

It monitors the battery for:

  1. ) Fault condition
  2. ) Battery charge
  3. ) Internal temperature
  4. ) Cell conditions
  5. ) and provides a battery-charging capability.

Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What busses do the 1/2 coverters power?

A
  1. # 1 DC pri, Dc essential, and Battery Bus

2. #2 DC pri

17
Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What do you lose when the battery reaches certain charge levels?

A

1) If the Battery is <30% you lose the capability of firing
the CAD

2) If the Battery is < 35%, it will shed the DC essential
bus

3) <40% charge, you receive BATT LOW Caution

18
Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What does the External power system include?

A

It includes a 4-amp circuit breaker that palces a 2-amp draw on teh power cable when connceted to the aircraft.

19
Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What does the two DC converters supply, and what are they powered by?

A

They supply 28VDC power to the DC electrical system. They are powered by the No. 1 and No. 2 AC Primary buses

20
Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What happens if you have a single/dual converter fail?

A

Single converter Fail- the other converter will pick up the
load of the buses powered by the failed converter
via automatic bus switching

Dual Converter Fail- the battery provides a source of
emergency electrical power to the Battery Utility
Bus, the Battery Bus, and the DC Essential bus

21
Q

NATOPS Chap 2

Electrical System

What happens if you have a Dual converter fail? Why do you not want to pull the CB like the checklist talks about?

A

In the event of a dual converter fail, you will lose both flight and mission displays. If you pull the circuit breaker, you can lose comms (this comes from experience while running electrical checks on FCFs)
