Electrical Principles & Technologies Flashcards
What is static electricity?
The build-up of an electrical charge (electrons) on an object.
What is current electricity?
The continuous movement of charged particles.
What is a conductor?
A conductor is a material that allows charges to move freely. IE metals
What is an insulator?
An insulator is a material that does not allow charges to move freely. IE non-metals ( plastic, wood, rubber)
What are the three laws of electric charges?
1) Opposite charges attract
2) Similar charges repel each other
3) Charged objects attract neutral objects
What are the three types of charges?
1) Neutral charge - Equal Positive and Negative Charges
2) Negative Charge - An excess of Electrons
3) Positive Charge - Shortage of Electrons
What is the difference between an Open circuit and a Closed circuit?
In an Open circuit, the pathway is interrupted. Open switches break the metal-to-metal connection and in a Closed-circuit, Electrons are able to travel in an unbroken pathway.
What are electrical circuits composed of?
1) Source - Where the electricity comes from.
2) Conductor - Wire through which electricity flows through.
3) Control - Switch which turns the device on or off.
4) Load - The item or device that converts the electrical energy into work
What the heck is resistance???
Well dear friend resistance is a property of a substance that hinders motion of electrical charge and then it converts it into electrical energy.
What is the STANDARD unit for Resistance?
ohm - Ω or R
What is the unit for voltage?
V
What is the unit for Current?
I
What are the 7 forms electricity comes in?
1) Electrical
2) Sound
3) Kinetic (Motion)
4) Light
5) Thermal (Heat)
6) Chemical
7) Nuclear
Power (Formula)
P=IV
Energy (Formula)
E=Pt
