Electrical Machines Flashcards
EM (Electric motors)
Electric motors can be defined as an electromechanical energy converter.
Generator
An electromechanical device that converts mechanical energy into electrical.
Rotor
The rotating part of a machine.
Stator
The stationary electrical part of a machine.
Armature Winding
The winding on the rotor.
Field Winding
The winding on the stator.
Brushes
Two pieces of springy metal or carbon that make contact with the commutator.
Separately Excited DC Machine
The armature and field winding are physically separate from each other. And the field winding is excited from a separate DC source.
Permanent Magnet DC Machine
The armature and field winding are physically separate from each other. The permanent magnets in the stator sets up the stator magnetic field.
How to adjust the speed of DC motor (3 ways)
Changing Flux. Changing Resistance. Changing Armature Voltage.
