Electrical circuits Flashcards
A plastic comb can attract pieces of tissue paper, explain how this happens?
The palstic comb is used to brush hair, therefor it gains an overall charge so it will attract the opposite/ neutral charge of the paper (the opposite charge is induced in the paper)
Explain how spray painting a car makes use of static electricity.
The car and the paint have opposite charges, the friction from the nozzle gives the paint an overall charge so the pint repels but attracts to the car as opposites attract.
State the advantages of using static electricity to spray-paint cars.
Less paint is lost because of the attraction of the paint and car, meaning all the car will be covered as the paint spreads out so the finish is more even
Describe how the strength of the electrical field varies with distance for the positive point of charge.
The size of the electrical field decreases with distance from he positive point/source.
Describe how the strength of the electrical field varies with distance for the electrical field between the parallel plates.
The size of the electrical field is constant throughout the separation of plates.
A positively charged proton is placed in the region of the fields, explain its motion when placed close to the positive point charge
The positively charged protons will accelerate away from the positive point charge due to the repulsion of positive protons and the positive point charge. But acceleration will decrease with distance as the field weakens the further you are from the point source.
A positively charged proton is placed in the region of the fields, explain its motion when placed close to the positive plate in the uniform field.
The proton will accelerate from the positive to negative plate at a constant rate of acceleration.
