Electrical Circuit Flashcards
What are the types of circuits?
- Open circuit
2. Closed circuit
What are the types of circuit arrangements?
- Parallel
2. Series
What are the advantages of arranging circuits in series?
- Saves electricity
2. Switches on/off all the electric current flowing through the circuit at once
What are the advantages of arranging circuits in parallel?
- If one bulb is off, the others are still on
- If one bulb fuses, the others are still working
- Equal amount of brightness for all bulbs
What are the disadvantages of arranging circuits in series?
- If one of them fuses, the whole circuit does not work
- The bulbs are not of equal brightness
- Harder to identify which bulb fused if there are a lot of bulbs
What are the disadvantages of arranging circuits in parallel?
- Wastes electricity
What are the main parts of a bulb?
- Metal casing
- Tungsten/Filament
- Glass bulb
- Metal tip
What are the main components of a circuit?
- Battery (Source of energy)
- Wires
- Bulb
What is the conductor of electricity?
- Metal
What are the insulators of electricity?
- Wood
- Plastic
- Ceramic
- Glass
(Any other examples except for Metal)
What is the outer layer of wires made out of and why?
The outer layer is usually made out of rubber as rubber is an insulator of electricity. It is to ensure that we do not get shocked by the electricity. So, the outer layer is made out of rubber
What is the insides of wires made out of and why?
The inside is made out cooper (or any other metal) as cooper conducts electricity. Electric current can flow through the cooper so that the bulb/bell/etc can light up/work. So, the wires are made out of cooper.
