Q

Voltage, Phase and Power

A

GEN 1, GEN 2: AC, 3 Phase, 115/200 V, 400 Hz, 90 KVA from GEN 1, GEN 2
DC: 28 V

Emergency Generator: AC, 3 Phase, 115/200 V, 400 Hz, 5 KVA

Static Inverter: Transforms 28 V DC from BAT 1 to AC, 1 Phase, 115/200 V, 400 Hz, 1 KVA. Above 50 kt: Activated no matter of BAT 1, 2 Pb Posn; Below 50 kt: Activated only if BAT 1, 2 Pb are ON.

Transformer Rectifiers (TRS): Converts AC, 3 Phase, 115/200 V, 400 Hz, up to 200 A (Normally 150 A), 28 V DC

Batteries: 23 Ah, 28 V DC

Q

Circuit Breaker Colours

A

Green: Monitored. When out for more than 1 min, C/B TRIPPED warning is triggered on ECAM. (Can be canceled by EMER CANC Pb.)

Black: Non-monitored.

Yellow: Must be puled when flying on batteries only. (Only applicable for HSD, HSE, HSG, HSI.)

Red: Never Reset. (e.g. Wing Tip Brakes)

Q

Generator Priority

A

GEN 1 and 2 > External Power > APU Generator (Explains why on ground keep External Power connected longer could reduce APU Load and save the PACKS)

Q

Emergency Generation after loss of all main Generatorsã

A

If both AC BUS 1 and AC BUS 2 are lost and the aircraft speed is above 100 kt, the RAT extends automatically. This powers the blue hydraulic system hydraulic motor, which drives the emergency generator, and supplies AC ESS BUS and DC ESS BUS via ESS TR. Buses Remaining: AC ESS BUS, AC SHED ESS BUS, DC ESS BUS, DC SHED ESS BUS, HOT BUS 1, HOT BUS 2.

*Emergency Generator takes 8 s before available and during the 8 s electrical generator is by Batteries and Static Inverters only. Once operating correctly, confirmed by No Red Fault Light on RAT and EMER GEN Indication.

Flight with Batteries:

HSD - HSI: When Landing Gear is Down, Emergency Generator is no longer powered. In case of go around, press RAT MAN ON Pb again and this will allow the Emergency Generator to reset and come back online.

HSJ onwards and all A321: The Emergency Generator works until it stalls (125 kt) or the aircraft is on ground with speed below 100 kt.

AC SHED ESS and DC SHED ESS are shed. Buses Remaining: BAT 1 supplies HOT BUS 1 and AC ESS BUS via Static Inverter. BAT 2 supplies HOT BUS 2 and DC ESS BUS.

Below 100 kt, DC BAT BUS is automatically connected to batteries.

Below 50 kt, AC ESS BUS is automatically shed, leading to loss of all Display Units (DUs). Buses Remaining: BAT 1 supplies HOT BUS 1, BAT 2 supplies HOT BUS 2 and DC ESS BUS, BAT 1 and 2 supply DC BAT BUS.

Q

Smoke Configuration, IDG Disconnection

A

Same as Emergency Electrical Configuration except fuel pumps are connected upstream of GEN 1 Line Connector.

IDG Disconnection: No reconnection in flight, Press P/b until GEN FAULT light comes on BUT NO MORE THAN 3 s to avoid damage, Confirmation: On ECAM ELEC Page, IDG legned becomes Amber “DISC” indication appears in amber, on ELEC Panel IDG FAULT Lt extinguishes.
