Electric Fields Flashcards
What is a point charge?
All charge is concentrated at the centre.
What are the field lines defined for in an electric field?
A positive test charge.
What is Coulombs Law?
Two charged objects will exert a (repulsive or attractive) force on one another that is inversely proportional to the square of the distances between them.
What does the Shuttling Ball experiment show and how?
Shows that electric current is the flow of charge.
Shuttling ball completes the circuit between two plates.
What is the Gold Leaf Electroscope used for?
Used to detect charge. Stem and leaf gain same type of charge and the leaf rises (repelled)
Define the electric potential at a point.
The work done per unit charge to move a test charge from infinity to that point.
