Electric Fields Flashcards
What is an electric field?
A region of space in which a charge experiences a non-contact force.
State Coulomb’s law of electric force.
The electrostatic force is proportional to the product of the charges involved and inversely proportional to the distance between them squared.
What is the equation for electric force?
F = KQQ/r²
If a particle is positively charged, where is the direction of force going?
Away from the centre.
If a particle is negatively charged, where is the direction of force going?
Towards the centre.
What is Electric field strength?
The force per unit charge acting on a small charge placed at that point in the field.
What is the equation for electric field strength?
E = F/q
What is the equation for electric field strength at a point r?
E = KQ/r²
