Electric Components Flashcards
AC
DC
LED
LDR
Alternating current
Direct current
Light emitting diode
Light dependent resistor
Name types of resistors and what they do
Variable have a screw or knob which can increase or decrease the amount of resistance
Fixed come in fixed resistance values
What’s an LDR
An LDR is high in darkness and low in brightness used to detect light levels eg street lamps they turn on at night
What’s a Thermistor
The electrical resistance of a thermistor is high in the cold and low in heat
Used to detect temperature eg oven heating system
What is a diode
A device that allows a current to flow in one direction they must be connected the right way around to work
Sometimes used to convert AC into DC
What is a transistor
Used to amplify a device (increase)an electrical signal
A small current going in the base of a transistor and is transformed into a bigger current
Eg transisitors are used as electronic switches aim circuits and in a computer
How do you find the ohms of a resistor
Look at the colour bands on the resistor write the colours down
Put the first two numbers down eg 6,3 becomes 63 and the last colour u X by ten
What does a capacitor do
They stir small amounts of electrical charge
Used in timer circuits they take time to charge.
