ELBOW Flashcards
Label
Ulna is bigger proximally, radius is bigger distally. Radius rotates, ulna doesn’t. The bones are held togeher by two radio-ulnar joints, proximally and distally.
Pain in the medial or lateral elbow worsening with repetitive movements is likely one of which two conditions?
Medial or lateral epicondylitis (golfers / tennis elbow respectively)
→ chronic symptomatic inflammation of forearm tendons at elbow. Overuse syndrome caused by microtears in tendons attaching to epicondyles of elbow following repetitive injury
Most people who have children shouldn’t have children. What is about to happen to this child’s elbow?
Subluxation of radial head (partial dislocation - pulled elbow)
Caused by axial traction on pronated forearm: and have a ligaments lips overhead of radius and becomes trapped in the radiohumeral joint
What is the most common paediatric elbow fracture? Which nerve and artery are most likely to be injured in this type of fracture?
Supracondylar fracture: often from fall on outstretched arm
Which nerve and artery can be damaged in a supracondylar fracture?
- Brachial artery
- Median nerve
- Radial or ulnar nerves may also be injured: ulnar travels under medial epicondyle; radial wraps laterally
