Elbow Valgus Stress Test
Medial pressure at the elbow to test the UCL
Elbow Varus Stress Test
Lateral pressure at the elbow to test RCL
Proximal Radioulnar Joint Instability Test
o Stabilize the ulna with one hand. Palpate the radial head with your other hand. While maintaining the stabilization of the ulna, move the radial head anteriorly and posteriorly to check for amount of movement.
o Positive test = pain and/or laxity
o Indicates a radioulnar instability
Medial Epicondylitis Test (resisted and passive)
Lateral Epicondylitis Test (resisted and passive)
Elbow Flexion Test
Patient makes a “W” with their hands and extends at wrists
Tinel’s Tap Test
o Palpate the ulnar nerve in the groove behind the medial epicondyle. Flex their elbow to 90 degrees. With two fingers, tap the ulnar nerve as it runs behind the medial epicondyle.
o Positive test = burning pain, excessive numbness/tingling
o Indicates a compression of the ulnar nerve/injury
