Humeral SHAFT fraction usual cause work up general tx look out for?
Trauma/ foosh
xray, exam
splint
wrist drop, radial n. injury
DISTAL humerus fracture usual cause work up general tx Nerves
trauma
xray, exam
splint if nondisplaced, ORIF if displaced
ulnar, median, radial
olecranon fx fracture usual cause work up general tx Nerves
trauma
xray, exam
splint if nondisplaced, ORIF if displaced
ulnar
Radial Head fx usual cause work up general tx Nerves
trauma
xray, exam
splint if nondisplaced, ORIF if displaced

Valgus etension overload syndrom CEO cause pain work up tx * in kids?
excessive/ repetitive valgus extension force - baseball pitches
post/medial elbow pain- VEO test
xray- osteophyte or loose bodies
tx- remove above or fix pitching
Little leaguer’s elbow- traction apophysitis (inflamation of tendon) of medial epicondyle growth plates leading to osteochondritits dissecan of capitellum (poor blood supply leading to aseptic necrosis)
Elbow dislocation
most common in children
usually posterior
xray/ exam
reduce/ splint
Nursemaid elbow
Radial head sublux out of annular ligament
upward yank on child’s hand
xray, exam
reduce- hyper protonate or supination with flexed arm
Ulnar collateral ligament strain
AKA medial collateral ligament excessive valgus force to anterior bundle of UCL medial elbow pain / lax xray tx RICE, PT, Tommy John surgery
Radial collateral ligament strain
AKA lateral collateral ligament excessive varus force to RCL lateral elbow pain xray tx RICE, PT, surgery
olecranon bursitis
inflamation of olecranon bursa
friction, repetitive force, assoc with RA, gout
exam, aspirate and cx if infected
tx rice elbow pad, aspiration
Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
overuse of wrist/finger extensors (usually ECRB)
+ cozen and mill’s test
tx rice, PT, splint, steroid, tenotomy, regenerative
increase grip size, decrease string tension <55lbs, play in slow court (clay) correct technique
Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow)
flexor tendon inflamation
overuse, valgus stress to common flexor tendon
golfers and pitchers
pain at common flexor tendon at medial epidondyle, pain with wrist flexion or extension while palpating tendon
RICE splint, PT, correct technique
Distal Biceps tendonitis tear
overload/use inflammation or tear at tendon insertion at radial tuberosity
pain at antecubital fossa, pain with biceps load
if rupture, sudden swelling and bruising at ant elbow
xray to r/o avulsion
Hook test: finger at distal tendon attempt at hooking it out
tx rice, pt, technique, surgery
triceps tendonitis/tear
overuse
avulsion with sudden eccentric force can occur
xray
RIE, PT, surgery
