Elasticity and Hooke's law Flashcards
what is elasticity
it is when the object will change its shape or size when a force is being applied
what is unstretched length
it is the original length or the total length before applying stretching force.
what is stretched length
it is the total length after applying the stretching force.
what is extension
it is the difference between the stretched length and the unstretched length
how to find the extension
stretched length- unstretched length
state hooke’s law
the extension of the spring is proportional to the load applied to it, within the limit of proportionality
what is limit of proportionality
upto limit of proportionality the spring will obey hooke’s law. beyond the limit of proportionality the spring wont obey hooke’s law.
what is the elastic limit?
up to the elastic limit, the object will return back to its original shape and size when removing the stretching force but beyond the elastic limit, it will not return to its original size and will permanently stretch.
what is hooke’s law formula
F=ke(force=spring constant x extension) (f=N, k=N/m, e=m)
