EL 1 Flashcards
What is the equation for finding the relative atomic mass of an element?
RAM= Relative isotopic mass x relative abundance
divide by mass of 1 atom= mass
What is the trend for the atom sizes as you go across the period?
They get smaller
Where would the largest atom be?
Francium (bottom of G1 or 2)
Where would the smallest atom be?
Noble gases like Neon etc
What happens as you go down the group apart from the obvious ones…
The energy levels get added
What is the pattern for protons as you go across the periods
They increase in the nucleus
As you go across the period what happens to the hardness of metals? What happens as you reach the non metals?
It increases up until silicon, afterwards become more soft until the gas
Give an example of a base
Mg(OH)2
Give an example of an alkali
NaOH
Give an example of an acid
H3PO4
What is the empirical formula?
The simplest whole number ratio
How do you work out percentage yield?
%= Actual/theoretical yield x 100
