EKG Flashcards
A. fib
A. flutter
What is the tx for a. flutter?
catheter ablation
V. fib- FATAL without immediate CPR and defibrillation
What is 1st degree AV block characterized by?
prolonged PR intervals (200+ msec) THAT ARE ALL THE SAME LENGTH- benign and asymptomatic. no tx required
What is 2ndary degree AV block characterized by?
progressive lengthening of the PR interval until a ‘beat’ is dropped (aka a P wave not followed by a QRS complex)
two types: Mobitz types I and II
What is the difference between Mobitz type I and II
Type I: a QRS drop is preceded by increasing PR intervals
Type II: the QRS drop is not preceded by increasing PR intervals
What is 3rd degree heart block?
the atria and ventricles beat independently of each other; both P and QRS waves are present but in pattern
A common cause of 3rd degree heart block is ______
Lyme disease
What is ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide)?
a peptide released from atrial myocytes in response to increased blood volume and atrial pressure
What does ANP do?
Acts via cGMP to cause vasodilation and decrease Na+ reabsorption at the renal collecting tubule, as well as dilate affarent renal arterioles and constrict efferent arterioles, promoting diuresis and contributing to what is known as the ‘aldosterone escape mechanism’
What is B-type (brain) natriuretic peptide?
this is released from ventricular myocytes in response to increased tension and works similarly to ANP
