Efficacious Grace Flashcards
(Def) Efficacious Grace
God’s special redemptive grace infallibly secures the salvation of those who receive it.
- Necessary and sufficient
Implication 1
When God determines to save someone, that person will surely be saved.
God’s decretive will never fails
Implication 2
Both an “external” and “internal” call to salvation in Christ.
Analogy - Lazarus raised (Jn. 11:43-44)
External call
Outward invitation, indiscriminate (Mt. 22, Romans 10:14)
Internal call
Inwards converting work (Rom 8:28-30, 1 Cor 1:24)
Implication 3
Divine grace precedes the human response to the gospel.
These internal changes secure a positive humans response to the gospel.
Compass fixed or forced?
Implication 4
Human freedom is compatible with comprehensive divine sovereignty
Misunderstanding 1
“The Holy Spirit coerces people into accepting Christ as Savior and Lord.”
- Through our wills, not against
