What was the treaty of Versailles?
The treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed at the end of WW1 designed to settle affairs in Europe after the war. The treaty was used to hold Germany accountable for the war.
Who were the major allied leaders at the treaty of Versailles and how did they feel?
Woodrow Wilson (USA) : wanted a fair and lenient treaty. Ensure peace Georges Clemenceau (France): wanted a very strict treaty to weaken Germany. Ensure No longer a treat to France David Lloyd George (Britain): saw validity of Wilson’s argument but knew British people wouldn’t be happy with lenient treaty.
What were the terms of the treaty of Versailles?
Germany lost:
Territory which contained coal, agricultural and iron production
Army was limited
Navy reduced ships and no submarines allowed
Not allowed to have military planes and heavy weapons
Had to pay reparations

The Germans felt angry and humiliated. They believed they would have won the war if it had continued.
