Q
How is smoking creates fetal hypoxia
A
- Mothers taking in less oxygen
- Vasoconstriction causes constricted blood vessels which equals less blood in the placenta which equals less oxygen to the fetus
- carbon monoxide pushes O2 out
- less blood in the uterus means less medium to transport nutrients
- cigarettes contain added chemicals which cause lesions on placenta
- hemoglobin will attach to extra CO2 in the blood which will cross the placenta to the baby
- uterus considered non essential. Under oxygenated when constricted
- poorly developed placenta
