Effects of malnutrition in relation to heart diseases, constipation and obesity Flashcards
Malnutrition
It results from dietary imbalance. It may be due to a deficiency or excessive intake of one or more components of food
Malnutrition (Deficient intake of component of food) in relation to constipation
A lack of dietary fibres causes constipation
Overnutrition in relation to obesity
Overconsumption of food than required by the body for its energy needs or for building tissue results in storing the surplus as fat, leading to obesity
Malnutrition (Excessive intake of component of food) in relation to heart diseases
Too much saturated fats and cholesterol may result in the formation of fatty plagues and cholesterol in the lining of the arteries. If these plaques form in the coronary arteries supplying the heart muscle with oxygenated blood, insufficient oxygen reaches the heart muscles, leading to coronary heart attack
