Talk about delay time, feedback and ADT (Automatic Double Tracking)
What is single and multi tap delay?
Single tap delay is when the audio signal is set to a set time delay, these repeat at regular intervals.
Multi-tap delay is when the delayed signal repeats again at different delay times. Each tap can have different settings.
What is ADT (Automatic double tracking)
This is when it takes the orginal signal and repeats is but puts a very slighlty delay on it so creates the illusion of a second recording.
What is slapback delay?
The original signal is repeated once, shortly after the first time, creating a sense of depth and space.
It’s like a quick, distinct echo right after the initial sound.
This effect is often used in music to add a vintage or retro vibe to vocals, guitars, and other instruments.
What is convolution reverb?
Convolution reverb is recorded through impulse response. It sweeps through all the frequencies and records the rooms independant response to each frequency. This unique reverb can then be used on your pre-recorded sounds.
What is a vocoder?
When you attach the vocals to a synthesiser.
Creates a robotic sounding vocal.
What is a Talk Box?
A talk box is a gadget that lets musicians change the sound of their instrument using their mouth. They put a tube in their mouth and shape their mouth to modify the instrument’s sound, creating cool vocal-like effects.
What is a flanger?
Flangers are created by mixing together two identical audio signals, with one signal slightly delayed and periodically modulated in time. This creates a sweeping, swirling effect with peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum.
What is chorus?
Chorus duplicates the original sound, slightly altering it’s pitch and timing, and then mixing it back with the original. This creates a richer, thicker sound with a sense of depth and movement, similar to a choir or ensemble performing.
What is a phaser?
A phaser is a music effect that creates a swirling, sweeping sound by splitting an audio signal into two parts, altering the phase of one part, and then mixing them back together.
This creates peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum, resulting in a distinctive “phasing” or “swooshing” sound.
What is gated reverb
A noise gate is added to cut off the reverb tail instead of letting it decay naturally.
This creates a distinctive, punchy reverb effect, that was popularised in the 80s, especially in drum sounds
