Q

Ask the flight crew what battery power is required for the second leg of the LOE. Do they know how to determine the appropriate battery power required for dispatch? (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16.C.1.e.)

A
Use the release fuel and make sure there is enough time on the EFB battery life for fuel on board the plane.
CRJ - 2,700 per hour
CR7 - 3,600 per hour
CR9 - 4,000 per hour
ERJ - 4,200 per hour

Q

Have the crew show you how to put the EFB in Airplane Mode. Ask them when it is required to be in Airplane Mode. (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16.C.3)

A

All EFBs must be placed in Flight Mode for all flight operations by placing the Airplane Mode to ON using EFB settings. Also cellular connectivity must remain OFF.

Q

What is the appropriate flight crew action for the following abnormal EFB operations?

a. Missing or non-serviceable EFB securing device. (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16. E. 1&2)
b. Single EFB failure or missing EFB prior to flight. (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16. E. 3)
c. EFB failure during flight: Single Failure. (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16. E. 4.)
d. Dual EFB failure. (FOM Ch. 4, Para 16. E. 5.)

A

a. Contact local SkyWest Maintenance and request a replacement EFB securing device. DO NOT WRITE UP!!! Flight may be accomplished as long as the PF uses remaining securing device, PM must stow EFB in flight bag during critical phases of flight, and PM must have printed paper copies of all necessary terminal charts for flight segments.
b. Must be reported to EFB help desk and flight may be dispatched if unable to obtain a serviceable EFB if approved by MOD. Pilot without EFB must have all necessary terminal information. PIC determines PF and PM depending on who has the operative EFB. If it becomes damaged during flight you cant use it and have to follow the instructions to replace it.
c. Both pilots need to obtain all necessary terminal charting information from the operational EFB and PIC determines the PF and PM based on which EFB is inoperative.
d. A diversion is not required, however the dispatcher must be notified to determine a mutually agreeable course of action. Consider declaring an emergency if an IMC approach is required. Request necessary information from dispatcher and consider vectors. Review FMS data for approach, airport and missed approach.
