As evil and ugly in appearance
‘a little man who was stumping’ → short, lacks elegance

‘Trampled calmly’ → oxymoron suggests his violence is intentional, suggests he is emotionless

‘like some damned Juggernaut’ → strong unforgiving and powerful

‘like satan’ → embodiment of evil

‘downright detestable’ → unnerving, horrid, displeasing

‘a strong feeling of deformity’ - phisiogmony suggests he is evil (chapter 3)

‘storm of blows’ - metaphor emphasises randomness and power of hydes attacks

→ jekylls evil lies in his desire to do whatever he wishes without the regard for others
