Education- Topic 6(Educational policy) Flashcards
Tripartite system 1944
Brought by the Education act 1944.
Children selected and allocated into three types of schools: Grammar, Secondary modern, and technical schools based on 11+.
m/c children more likely to pass therefore reproduced class inequalities.
The comprehensive school system
Introduced in many areas from 1965 onwards. It aimed to override the class divide. 11+ was abolished along with grammars and secondary moderns., and replaced with comprehensive schools which all pupils would attend.
However it was left to the local education authority to decide whether to ‘go comprehensive’ and not all did so. As a result the grammar-secondary modern divide still exists in many areas.
New labour policies 1997-2010
