Cyril Burt: There are three types of students - Academic, Technical, Practical

Said that there should be separate schools for these students

Grammer schools = Academic curriculum
Technical schools = Technical curriculum

Grant maintained schools - Schools could opt out of local authority control and have greater freedom

National curriculum - Government created a curriculum for teachers to teach.

1997-2010

A

Education action zones - Regions of Low attainment and high deprivation received government funding to improve students attainment

Academies - Designed to replace failing schools. Academies have more freedom which will lead to new strategies being implemented to combat underachievement.
