Free education till the age of ten but in 1880 was made compulsory from 5-13
What was the butler act?
- each state funded school would have to sit pupils in the 11+ exam
- after they would be sent to either gramma, secondary technical or secondary modern school
- this was called the tripartite
What was comprehensive education?
•government moved to back comprehensive schools by introducing GCSE’s
What was the Education act?
The education reform act allows parents choice over schooling encouraging schools to compete for students
League tables and OFSTED are produced
Introduction of SATs and the national curriculum too
What was the new labour?
- extended provision of faith and specialist schools
- introduction of trust schools
- failing schools replaced with city academies
- school is compulsory till 18
- A levels split to AS and A2
- national literacy and numeracy introduced
What are the coalition policies?
- aim to encourage excellence, competition and innovation
- Academies act in 2010 encourages schools own funding
- funding controlled in state free school meals year 1&2
- introduction of pupil premium
