What did wealthy girls learn?
Latin, Greek, singing, dancing and how to run a house(cooking, cleaning, childcare ect)
and ordering slaves, in addition to reading and writing.
What did poor girls learn?
Domestic chores.
What age did children attend the Litterarius?
7-12
What age did boys attend the Grammaticus?
12-16
What age did boys attend the Rhetor?
16 onwards
What did children learn with their Paedagogus?
Grammar, reading, basic maths and music.
What did children learn at the Litterarius?
Reading, writing, poetry and arithmetic/maths.
What did children learn at the Grammaticus?
Literature, especially poetry. Latin and Greek, rhetoric/making speeches, history, geography and astronomy.
What did children learn at the Rhetor?
Very few boys went on to study at the Rhetor where they learnt geography, music, philosophy, literature, mythology, geometry and law and politics.
How expensive was school and where was it held?
It was fairly cheap but this meant a teacher had to find a simple room to hire or just to teach in shaded colonnades of public areas such as the Forum
