Socialisation
the process through which individuals learn the norms and values of society, leading to social cohesion and a functional society
Role allocation

Universalistic standards
everyone is judged by the same standards, regardless of family ties, class, race, ethnicity, gender or sexuality
Particularistic standards
These standards are only applied within the family, where children are judged based on subjective factors, in turn, based on what the family values
Solidarity
an element of human association that emphasizes the cohesive social bond that holds a group together, which is valued and understood by all group members.
Social cohesion
the strength of relationships and the sense of solidarity among members of a community.
Meritocracy
jobs and pay are allocated based on an individual’s talent and achievements rather than social status.
Norms
rules or expectations that are socially enforced
Values
a culture’s standard for discerning what is good and just in society.
Ascribed status
the social status of a person that is assigned at birth or assumed involuntarily later in life.
Achieved status
position in a social group that one earns based on merit or one’s choices.
Social stratification
a society’s categorization of its people into rankings based on factors like wealth, income, education, family background, and power
